Description:
The US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation is looking for
an experienced organizer who is dynamic, articulate, creative, and a passionate
social justice advocate to work as a full-time National Organizer in its
Washington, DC office.
The US Campaign is a national coalition of more than 325 organizations working
to end U.S. support for Israel’s military occupation and human rights
abuses against Palestinians and change U.S. policy toward Israel/Palestine
to support human rights, international law, and equality for all.
The National Organizer will be responsible for working with staff, Steering
Committee, Advisory Board, and member organizations of the US Campaign to organize
and coordinate national grassroots campaigns, create new program ideas, work
with member groups on Campaign priority areas, help give a national voice to
local actions, and implement the US Campaign’s main programmatic priorities
from the National Assemblies, including:
a) Grassroots
organizing capacity building with member organizations: * Organize tours and projects with Campaign member groups and others to help
strengthen existing groups, build leadership, and mobilize in target
constituencies
* Create and distribute new educational and training
resources
b) Coalition
building:
* Help develop organizing strategies to broaden the impact as well as the regional
and demographic diversity of the US Campaign and its member groups. * Help to organize and mobilize for the annual National Organizers’ Conferences
and Grassroots Training Institutes
c) Coordinating
national campaigns:
* Help develop and craft days of action focusing
on specific nationally- and internationally-identified anniversaries and
commemorations
* Create new and creative “BDS” (boycott, divestment and sanctions) tactics for
existing national corporate accountability campaigns against Motorola,
Caterpillar, and Ahava companies aimed at ending their profiting from Israel’s
human rights abuses of Palestinians and violations of international and U.S.
law.
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
* Experience in national, regional & local organizing
and coalition building * Experience in public speaking, training and mobilizing
among diverse constituencies
* A strong knowledge of Palestine/Israel and U.S. policy in the region
* Experience in designing and implementing grassroots campaigns for social
change
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills
* Be willing to travel within the United States on average once a month
* Work collaboratively with others and be able to juggle multiple
responsibilities and work independently
* Have strong computer literacy, including Word and Excel applications
Candidates for the position who have experience with graphic design and/or digital
video editing should indicate this on their resume. Candidates with foreign
language skills, especially Arabic, Hebrew, or Spanish should also indicate
this on their resume.
The successful candidate will be hired for a one-year, renewable contract with
a negotiable starting salary based on experience, and a generous benefits
package.
In addition to being willing to travel for work, the National Organizer must be
able and willing to work certain evenings and weekends. The National Organizer
is expected to work at least 40 hours per week; this is a professional salaried
position.
